SmartSWM March Update

SmartSWM is off to a great start in 2021. Today we are sharing an update of what we have been working on this year. Our team looks forward to sharing regular updates in the future as we continue to add new features to the SmartSWM system.

Extreme Flood Hazard Mode

We have updated Extreme Flood Hazard (XFH) mode on all SmartSWM facilities. XFH now scales the maximum facility discharge to the frequency of the precipitation event, thereby allowing compliance with virtually all local stormwater ordinance requirements.

XFH mode analyzes weather forecasts to find significant precipitation events. It then optimizes the use of a facility’s flood attenuating capability in order to minimize the peak discharge rate and volume to the downstream watercourse.

Users can enable or disable XFH mode and adjust maximum permissible XFH discharge rates in the SmartSWM App.
System Events

Users are now able to receive notifications of significant System Events. System Events are emailed to users and accessible on the SmartSWM App. We will expand System Events over time and currently include the following events:

  • Wet Weather Event Started
  • Facility Discharge Updated
  • Facility Low Battery
  • Facility Offline
Wet Weather Event Tracking

The SmartSWM Engine now tracks and stores Wet Weather Events (WWEs) in real time. This enables viewing and searching WWEs in the SmartSWM App, and improves performance at facilities.

WWEs are displayed as shaded blue areas on facility graphs.
Discharge Optimization

SmartSWM facilities now leverage the Wet Weather Event start time to determine the optimal discharge rate needed to dewater to their target depth. Previously, facilities would dewater over a fixed period. This optimization reduces stormwater facility discharge rates, enhances water quality performance and minimizes impacts to downstream watercourses.

Battery Temperature

Battery temperature is now a tracked metric and viewable on all solar powered SmartSWM facilities.

Hardware Updates

Facilities received updates to their microcontrollers to improve connectivity and performance.
